Choosing and Using a Copywriter

Business and other organisations use copywriters to produce content for their websites and social media accounts in order to attract website visitors and promote their business.

They may also use them to write text for other promotional materials, such as leaflets, brochures, press releases, sales letters and catalogues.

Copywriters are sometimes referred to as commercial writers, content writers, content marketers or SEO (search engine optimisation) writers. Copywriters who provide web content may offer additional services such as social media planning, liaising with other content providers (such as graphic designers, website designers/developers and providers of video and photographic content), web editing, content planning, and SEO management.

This factsheet explains how to find and choose a copywriter as well as the typical process involved in working with a copywriter. It also provides information about the cost of hiring a copywriter and legal issues to be aware of.
