A Guide to Pay As You Earn (PAYE)
Pay As You Earn (PAYE) is the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) system for collecting income tax, National Insurance contributions (NICs) and student loan repayments from employees.
Employers normally have to operate PAYE as part of their payroll system. This means reporting payroll information to HMRC, making the correct deductions from employees’ pay and the correct payments to HMRC, and maintaining an orderly system of pay-related records.
