A Guide to Food Information and Labelling Requirements

Food information regulations set out the general principles, requirements and responsibilities relating to the provision of food information, and in particular food labelling.

Food labelling requirements for the UK are governed by the Provision of Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 (usually known as the EU FIC).

Measures for enforcing the requirements of the EU FIC are provided for by the Food Information Regulations 2014 in England and similar regulations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This factsheet summarises the main labelling requirements for prepacked and non-prepacked food and the legal responsibilities of food business operators.
