A Guide to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH)
Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), employers have a duty to prevent or control the exposure of employees and anyone else in the workplace to substances that are hazardous to their health.
Employers are also required to carry out an assessment of the risk from hazardous substances in their workplace. The COSHH Regulations apply to self-employed people who work with hazardous substances in the same way that they apply to employers.
In Northern Ireland, hazardous substances are covered by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 (COSHH), which impose broadly similar requirements.
