A Guide to the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Regulations 2014

Under the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Regulations 2014, consumers can bring civil proceedings to claim redress from traders who use misleading, aggressive or otherwise unfair commercial practices that are prohibited under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

Redress means ‘putting things right’. It can take the form of a full refund, a discount, and, in more serious cases, damages.

This factsheet explains consumers’ right to redress from traders who use practices that are prohibited under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

Consumers’ rights of redress under other consumer protection legislation are dealt with separately in “Guide to the Consumer Rights Act 2015” and “A Guide to the Consumer Protection Act 1987”.
