In Northern Ireland, licensing authorities regulate the sale and supply of alcohol under the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996. Alcohol retailers in Northern Ireland must be authorised to sell alcohol by a liquor licence or occasional licence before starting to trade.
The unauthorised sale and supply of alcohol is an offence punishable by a fine of up to £5,000 or a six-month term of imprisonment.
