A Guide to the Alternative Dispute Resolution Regulations 2015
The Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015 were introduced to encourage the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), which is a process for resolving disputes between traders and consumers without going to court.
The Regulations promote the use of ADR by requiring traders to provide consumers with information about any certified ADR scheme relating to their sector that can deal with disputes that might arise.
Under an amendment to the Regulations, online traders who sell to consumers must include a link on their website to the European Commission’s ‘online dispute resolution platform’, known as the ODR platform.
